Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has garnered much attention lately as a powerful gut detox - said to kickstart digestion, cleanse the blood of bacteria, and even help lower blood sugar levels.
As a sucker for new food trends I had to try it out. I purchased a bottle of organic ACV and started experimenting. In my first attempt I tried taking a straight shot of nothing but the vinegar... its potent taste was much too strong for me. On it's own I just couldn't stomach it. After that, I tried mixing a small amount of vinegar with an equally small amount of lemon juice, water, and honey to make a sort of tiny elixir but I still couldn't stomach it.
After chatting some more with people about all the amazing benefits benefits I wanted to give it one last try. This time I decided to look for a recipe that I could not only stomach but actually enjoy! I am happy to say I have found said recipe :) My preferred concoction is made with our delicious Winter tea.
Here is what you need:
- 1 tsp of Winter Tea
- 8 oz cup of hot water for steeping (boil water to approx. 95 degrees)
- 1 tsp of ACV
- 1-2 tsp of honey (depending on how sweet you like it!)
(optional: slice of lemon)
I steeped the Winter tea in hot water using a tea press (a coffee or tea press is my preferred way to make loose leaf tea!). After steeping for 5 mins I poured the tea into a mug and stirred in the ACV and honey. Super easy and really delicious! I find the ginger flavour of the tea combines really nicely with the apple flavour of the ACV, and together with the honey this drink nicely disguises the potent taste.
The best part, not only are you incorporating ACV, you're also getting turmeric!
Try it out and please let me know what you think!
